As the
Philadelphia Flyers already have introduced
their throwbacks for the 2010 Winter Classic in Fenway Park, it was time for the
Boston Bruins to do the same last night at the Bruins Town Hall fan gathering. Truth be told, the
jerseys leaked a while back during the NHL's media tour of New York, but now they're official.
From the NHL:
Boston will wear a sweater that is brown and gold, the original colors worn by the club from 1924 until 1934 - including the year the Bruins won their first Stanley Cup in 1929. The crest featured on the sweater is a variation on the club's "original'" spoked-B that debuted as part of the organization's 25th Anniversary season in 1949. The new NHL Winter Classic uniform also features other elements from historic Bruins eras - including gold socks first worn in the 1930s and laces on the jersey, worn during the glory days of the Big Bad Bruins of the 1970s.
Chris from Icethetics loves the duds: "It may well be the best of the six Winter Classic jerseys - and that's some stiff competition. It barely beats out that Blackhawks jersey if you ask me. Just barely."
Cornelius Hardenbergh thinks they're pretty slick, but
Something's Bruin actually called it an abomination. We actually agree with the basic premise of the latter blog: That the Bruins have a storied history of sweaters from which to choose, and
something like this would have been rather unique. Then again, as the home team, maybe they were forced to wear a solid color.
When combined, the Flyers and Bruins jerseys will make for perhaps the most aesthetically unpleasing combination in the short history of the outdoor games. That's not to say that on their own they aren't sharp-looking duds -- the dark brown and the logo on the Bruins jersey above are rather striking -- but the black/orange vs. the black/margarine-colored just doesn't mesh like the blue vs. blue in Buffalo and the red vs. red in Wrigley.
Unless, of course, they're both covered in blood at some point, which is our eternal hope for a Flyers/Bruins Classic. With that:
Pass or Fail: The Boston Bruins 2010 Winter Classic Jerseys.
After the jump, an alternative concept for the jersey and a couple of very clever videos by the Bruins about the new jerseys. (Spoiler: One involves Cam Neely and a giant bear.)
Before the videos, here's Puck Buddy Mike L.
So the Bruins unveiled their winter classic jersey tonight. Although I do like the bruins new jersey, I don't really like the logo they chose. So I did a quick (and crappy) Photoshop job and changed up the Bruins logo for their winter classic jersey. Just wondered what you thought of it. I personally think it would've been 100x better with the old bear crest.
What do you think?

As for the videos, here's one that's made the rounds today: The return of the giant bear who starred in other Bruins ads last season, performing with Cam Neely in his finest performance since "Sea Bass":
The Bruins also released this awesome video of Neely breaking down the specifics of the Winter Classic sweater, which he had input in creating:
Great job by the Bruins in making this jersey release something special, no matter how you feel about the sweater.
